Finding Strength in the Face of Resistance

Updated: Jan 18, 2021

Do you ever have ideas, inventions or creations that sound really great and then you slowly but surely build up brick-laden walls that make them all seem impossible to accomplish?

The older I get it feels the more barriers I put on myself instead of staying open and passionate about the ideas after they form. Even more do these walls grow taller and stronger as people around me chip away at the core of my ideas.

Why do we stand in our own way? Why do we allow fear or over-analyzing prevent us from meeting our goals and accomplishing our dreams?

Feelings of insecurity could be to blame. There are many different forms of insecurity but at the heart of this matter could be our need for perfectionism. We want our lives, our jobs, our homes, to be exactly as we want them, and we work so hard to get them that way...even in the eyes of those around us. But every aspect of this life isn't in our control and the more we realize that, the easier it may be to diminish those pressures we place on ourselves.

Instead, let's focus on how much time, effort and attention we put forth rather than the actual outcome of our efforts. Let's remember that life will go on regardless of that outcome and that with each experience comes further growth and personal development. Let's learn to love ourselves irrespective of our conditions or circumstances.

If and when we choose ourselves first, we can begin to calm our minds, our hearts, our souls. We can take small steps instead of feeling overwhelmed by the monstrous work that lays ahead, and we can not only silence but disprove those who disbelieve.
